United African Women

of Rhode Island Association

is a grassroots organization dedicated to empowering women of Rhode Island's African community. Since 2022, we have fostered resilience, economic empowerment and social connection through culturally informed education, leadership training and community initiatives. Join us in building sisterhood, sharing resources and creating lasting impact across generations.

Because when African women thrive, our entire community flourishes!

Because when African women thrive, our entire community flourishes!

Our Core Values

  • Unity in Diversity

We honor the rich tapestry of African cultures and experiences by creating inclusive spaces where every voice is heard. By celebrating our unique backgrounds and traditions, we build solidarity that transcends differences and strengthens our collective impact and community experience.

  • Kindness & Emotional Intelligence

We approach one another with compassion, active listening and empathy, recognizing that true empowerment begins with understanding and care. Through mindfulness practices and supportive dialogue, we cultivate emotional resilience and reduce stress so our sisters can face challenges with dignity and grace.

  • Empowerment through Education

We deliver targeted workshops, mentorship programs, and skills-building seminars designed to equip women and girls with practical tools for personal and professional growth. By fostering critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, we enable participants to identify barriers, seize opportunities and drive sustainable change in their lives.

  • Sister’s Keeper Ethos

We embrace a spirit of mutual support, stepping in to share burdens and celebrate successes — whether through peer counseling, resource sharing or collective advocacy. This commitment to holding each other up ensures that no member navigates hardship alone and that our community’s strength is multiplied through shared responsibility.

Our Leadership
